The trophy

Over the years there have been monthly collages. Most saluted different contributors to the Album. This new forum is just to keep the collages and remarks about them from being totally forgotten.

The trophy

Postby Niner Alpha » Sun Mar 11, 2018 9:24 pm

Jerry White bought it with money out of his own pocket years ago after thinking about how a lot of us, first gathered at my fledgling website, worked on the first real battalion reunion. It all started with the idea of getting as many found guys as possible in contact again, in one place, for the healing and joy of it. The 2005 reunion campaign aimed for the 31st Regiment Association Reunion at Ft. Benning for the simple reason that they existed and had a reunion. Recruiting for the Association wasn't our intention and joining the the Association was no requirement at all for attending. We were interested in the meeting that could be held under their banner and pointed to them because they were a going organization. And the 6th of the 31st took over the show that year by outnumbering whoever else was there at least by three to one. Then the idea dawned that since we were in the great majority we might as well stay.

Jerry offered the attendance trophy for the company that gathered the most guys at the yearly reunion as encouragement. And it was well received and added to the enthusiasm of those early years as many of us tried to get guys to Regiment reunions every year. When the trophy was made in 2007 and brought to the San Antonio reunion the "award" of top company was back dated on the trophy to 2004 and brought forward and added to with each passing year.

The trophy fell on hard times as the years started into the teens. It was out of the picture after one year being awarded to one company but ended up later with Floyd Jones in another company as he volunteered to return it to Jerry. When Floyd got it the statue had been damaged by some unknown happenstance.

The last appearance of the now permanently wounded stature was at the Branson stand alone reunion that Jerry and I hosted in 2015. That stand alone reunion attracted the most 6/31st men ever. No Regiment Association involvement whatsoever. The statue took it's place on the sign in table as honor guard. It now resides in Texas with Jerry....where it belongs.

Jerry and I don't belong to the 31st Regiment Association any longer for a number of individual personal reasons. We have gone our separate ways from them..... although the Association does have a reunion....... every other year now.
