Comment | [Bill McMullen] On April 24th we had a contact near Bearcat in which 2 guys died right away from a command detonated claymore. Their names were Don Hanna and Bill Rauber. Rauber was the medic for 1s platoon. SSG Schroeder passed away from his wounds like 20 days later. There were another 2-4 guys wounded. We only got a couple of guys out late that day. The extractor from the dust-off broke and we had to spend the night with the dead and a couple of wounded inside our perimeter. Not a good night. |

Comment | I was there with Don also. He was carrying the M60 just in front of me when a mine was detonated. He was killed instantly and a fire fight took place. That is when the medic, Bill Rauber, came forward to help during that time. Bill got hit also dieing from his wounds. They both were brave guys and I was proud to have been there with them at my side. God Bless them both. Sgt. E5 Richard Dolehanty. 1st Plt. C Company. 1st Squad 1968,69 |
