I was with John when he was hit.  He was in my squad and we were sweeping an area around Long An when  we started receiving sniper fire.  We started getting fired upon as we moved along a river bank.  I remember we came upon the sniper.  We exchanged fire and in doing so we killed the sniper but in doing so John was hit.  If I remember,  John was only with us a short time before he was killed.  He was a brave guy and may have saved my life by eliminating the sniper when we were fired upon.  I was proud to have him by my side.
