Comment | [Ray Heltzel] Jerry was one of the originals from Fort Lewis. Jerry tried his hand at Warrant Officers school prior to joining the outfit. Jerry may have had more heart then anybody in the platoon. He was always in the middle of the action and always pulled more than his fair share of the load. He was a private guy but didn't miss a beat staying in touch at home he was everybody's little brother and I will miss him a lot. Jerry was killed by a chi com grenade disguised as a vine. Lt. Washington was hit at the same time severely and that was the end of his command. Jerry was a special man and I hope to hear from his family. He saved my life. Ray L Heltzel Co D. 6/31st Inf.
